It’s probably the same feeling I’ll have when J learns to drive.

All the drama is downtown and contained in a 4-block section. Once you leave the protest zone, one wouldn’t even know there are protests. However, the majority of Portlanders stand with the protesters.
.
For close to 60 days, the Portland Police have been over-reacting, so people kept protesting. The protesters, city hall, and the PPD were making peace.
.
Then the feds made it worse. They started doing snatch and grabs of random protesters and activists. That was freaky as hell.
.
Now we seem to be the center of election year politics, video clips and shitty, hateful rhetoric.
.
There aren’t any riots or violent Antifa (well maybe like 5 of them, but nobody arrested has been Antifa, as far as I know), only protesters. And these peaceful protesters are mostly locals, Portlanders. And they are gassed every evening because our police only see the enemy, not Americans, because the police think it’s their role to punish and “because I said so” is a valid reason for anything.
.
Now, protesters are united in showing how the Police and Feds are overreacting, using excessive force because the PPD and the Feds want to silence free speech and punish protesters (punishment should be reserved for the courts).
.
But those protesters are moms, dads, vets, small business owners, teachers, and high school students. A lot are my friends and colleagues.
.
There is no need to gas them (literally a war crime) and shoot them with less-lethal (still lethal, tho) munitions because some dude tossed a water bottle or shook a fence.
.
I am proud of my city, little Beirut. I fear however, with 170 more Federal shock troop coming to town, things are going to blow up.
.

Thanks to a dear friend of the family, J was able

Thanks to a dear friend of the family, J was able to attend a Black Lives Matter Civil Rights March for kids. She made her own sign and (middle photo) met the artist who created a beautiful mural. .
I’m super pumped J got to join the global Civil Right Movement currently happening. It one thing to explain this historic moment and another to participate in it. My little warrior will be a big warrior one day, but the premise will stay the same - don’t be mean!!!

But trust me when I say, we are fine and Antifa is not a threat to anyone except the alt-right, who incidentally have been terrorizing Portlanders for over 5 years. .

The GI bill was instrumental to building America’s powerhouse middle class and GDP. The bill opened up home ownership and education to millions of Americans, bringing comfort and generational wealth on a scale never before seen in the world.

Unfortunately, because of racism and redlining, Black Americans were denied these loans and subsequent access to the middle class. This kept 3 generations of Black Americans in poverty.
